IYRS Expands Scholarship Opportunities

Published on April 9th, 2013

Newport, RI (April 9, 2013) – IYRS has expanded its scholarship opportunities for students applying to the school’s three full-time programs. This larger field of scholarship options is expected to draw a competitive pool of applicants for Fall 2013 admission.

These scholarships are the direct result of the strong emphasis the school has placed on raising scholarship funding; in 2011, IYRS set an ambitious goal of raising $4 million for scholarships during the 2011-2015 period.

Below is a listing of scholarship opportunities for students planning to enter the school’s full-time programs in Boatbuilding & Restoration, Marine Systems or Composites Technology in Fall 2013.

For all named scholarships, the priority deadline is April 19, and the final deadline is July 1, 2013. IYRS named scholarships are awarded based on both demonstrated financial need and merit.

Van Beuren Charitable Trust Scholarship: A total of $5,000 will be awarded to a student who is a Rhode Island resident.

Marine Trades Scholarship for Women: A total of $5,000 will be awarded to a female student pursuing an education in the marine trades. Special consideration will be given to women who are entering or changing careers to the marine trades and have shown interest in the field through professional or personal pursuits.

Hope Goddard Iselin Fund: A total of $5,000 will be awarded to a female student in her first year of the Boatbuilding & Restoration Program.

Antiques & Classic Boat Society Scholarship: A total of $5,000 will awarded to a student attending the Boatbuilding & Restoration Program.

Boatbuilding & Restoration 50/50 Scholarship: A student entering the Boatbuilding & Restoration Program will receive scholarship support equaling 50 percent of the program’s tuition.

In addition, IYRS offers general scholarships that are based on need and granted in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The priority deadline for applying for these IYRS scholarships is also April 19, and the final deadline is July 1, 2013.
