Francis Joyon Smashes Solo Transatlantic Record

(June 16, 2013) – Sailing the 29.7m maxi-trimaran IDEC, Francis Joyon has smashed the west to east solo transatlantic record, completing the 2925nm route in 5 days, 2 hours, 56 minutes and 10 seconds, decreasing the previous record set by Thomas Coville in 2008 by 16 hours, 24 minutes and 30 seconds. Joyon trailed the record pace for much of the crossing, but closed strong for the final 600 nm. Joyon now holds the solo records for 24 hour distance, transatlantic, Road of Discovery and round the world. – Full report
