Coville seeks to set solo record

The 31m maxi-trimaran Sodebo crossed the starting line for the around the world solo record in 14h33’08” (French time) on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. With two reefs in the mainsail and small gennaker, skipper Thomas Coville lunged before Créac’h lighthouse (Ushant) in 25 knots of wind from the North and with a favorable current. To beat the singlehanded record held by Francis Joyon aboard IDEC since January 20, 2008 (57 days, 13 hours, 34 minutes and 6 seconds), the skipper of Sodebo will need to cross back the line off Ushant before January 9, 2014 4h06’14” (French time). This is Coville’s fourth attempt at the record.
