Kiteracing World Championship 2013: The Movie

Published on January 1st, 2014

It has been only one month since the IKA Kite Course Racing World Championship for 2013 was successfully organised in the beautiful island of Hainan in China.

There were five intense days of racing with strong winds at the opening series and light winds as the event moved towards the finals. A great line up of riders as most of last year’s protagonists were present together with new rising stars.

In the men’s fleet it was a strong battle between defending World Champion Johnny Heineken from USA and the young German rider Florian Gruber both having equal results at the opening series. Gruber finally managed to keep a more stable performance and be the 2013 World Champion in a very demanding event that had various conditions making it harder to have solid results.

In the women’s fleet it was an easy task for reigning Erika Heineken from the USA to defend her title as a World Champion. She scored one bullet after another, soon creating a safe lead from 2013 European Champion Steph Bridge.

Although the light conditions during the last day of the medal race series did not allow any races for women and allowed only one race for men there were few to change at the top places and the winners celebrated their titles and awards at the special ceremony that was held in King Bay.
