Over 20 Companies to attend Marine Industry Career Fair

Published on March 11th, 2014

The Landing School, a post-secondary institution focused on educating tomorrow’s marine industry professionals, will be hosting a career fair on April 2, 2014 at their campus in Arundel, ME.

More than 20 companies from across the country will attend the event. Current students and alumni of The Landing School as well as prospective students will be able to network with companies looking to fill positions from yard crew to yacht designers. For current students and alumni it’s a chance to explore the variety of positions available to them. For prospective students, it’s a prime opportunity to see what it’s like to work in the marine industry.

“We’re seeing a great surge in demand for qualified marine industry professionals,” said Barry Acker, Director of Industry Relations and Student Placement. “We receive new job listings from the industry almost daily which is great news for both the industry and our students. It’s also a great opportunity for those who have struggled to find work over the past several years. The marine industry is once again booming as is illustrated by our industry partners who can’t fill their positions fast enough. In fact, several of our students who will not graduate until June already have job offers. It really is an exciting time to be in this industry.”

Companies attending the career fair will first tour the facility and have the chance to see Landing School students in action. Each company representative will then introduce him/herself and provide a short description of the company including what their company does and what projects they are working on currently. Company representatives will have a chance to talk with students, alumni and prospective students on a more casual level during an informal lunch and into the late afternoon.

Bob DeColfmacker, Landing School President said, “Many of the companies coming to our career fair already employ Landing School graduates and are coming back for more. It’s a true testament to the quality of our education and how we work to meet the needs of the industry. Because we are an integral link between students and the industry, it is important that we continue to provide this type of event for our industry partners so that they can continue to do the work they’ve dedicated their lives to and so our students can obtain the rewarding career they’ve worked so hard for.”
