Eight Bells: Vern Bybee

Vern Dow Bybee, Jr., 69 years, died of a broken heart on June 30, 2014, following the death of his wife Patricia Jane on March 13, 2013. Vern was one of Colorado’s best sailors and best people, a classy guy in winning and even the rare loss. He was always gracious and helpful, especially with new sailors.

His Santana 20, “P.J.”, was his second love; he was a long-time member of the class and 1994 Santana 20 National Champion. But he never seemed to recover after the tragic and sudden death of his first love, boat number 902’s namesake. Arrangements are being handled by All-States Cremation. We’ll sorely miss you, Vern.
