Gilmour, Snow lead field at Governor’s Cup

Published on July 17th, 2014

Corona del Mar, CA (July 17, 2014) – The top eight youth match teams at the Governor’s Cup competed today in the Quarter Final Round Robin, completing six of the seven flights. At the top of the rank are teams led by Nevin Snow (USA) and Sam Gilmour (AUS), who recently competed in the World University Match Racing Championships in Italy, with Snow edging out Gilmour in the finals.

Gilmour, who won the Governor’s Cup in 2013, has had the edge this week, beating Snow in the qualifying round and again today in their Quarter Final match. Both teams sit on 5-1 records. The top four teams from the Quarter Final Round Robin series will advance to the Semi-Final Round.

The change in the weather may have made a difference for some of the teams, since the wind has been strong and steady today, coming from the west and maintaining about fifteen knots. The temperature has been in the mid-70’s and we hope will continue to provide excellent sailing.

Racing will be held through Saturday in the ocean near the Newport Pier.

Quarter Final Round (6 of 7 flights completed)
RFBYC – Sam Gilmour, 5-1
SDYC – Nevin Snow, 5-1
BYC – Christophe Killian, 3-3
CYCA – Murray Jones, 3-3
BYC – Ryan Davidson, 3-3
CYC – Will Holz, 2-4
