Martina Sly and Ian Morgan win Club 420 North Americans

Published on July 24th, 2014

Long Beach Island, NJ (July 24, 2014) – Dominating the 2014 c420 North Americans from start to finish, Martina Sly and Ian Morgan confirmed their claim today to take the title by 22 points. The 115-boat fleet left the beach under cloudy skies and a dying northerly breeze, with the first race started in 8 knots and finished in 3 knots. Conditions fell apart after the race, with the Race Committee calling the regatta after completing a total of 13 races over four days.

“The regatta was so much fun with all the different conditions; it really challenged you,” remarked Morgan. Martina Sly talked a little bit about the keys to the regatta. “Our boat speed was really good in all conditions; we really focused on keeping the boat flat and avoiding the windward heel in the choppy conditions. The key was to be consistent and stay in the top group. We sailed in pressure and sailed high on reaches to keep our air clear and our boat moving,” explained Sly.
