WSSRC ratifies Newport to Bermuda record

The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified a new Newport (RI) to Bermuda outright record by the 105-foot trimaran Lending Club. On April 20, Renaud Laplanche (USA/FRA), Ryan Breymaier (USA), and a crew of six completed the 635nm distance in 23:09:52 at an average speed of 27.41 knots. The previous record of 38:35:53 was set by Steve Fossett (USA) and the 125-foot trimaran PlayStation on January 2000.
