Melges 32 rockstars in Porto Venere

Porto Venere, Italy (May 13, 2015) – After the Melges 24 and Audi Melges 20s “King of Poets” crown taken by Chris Rast’s EFG and Mirko De Falco’s Peccerè, respectively, it is a hectic time in Porto Venere as the Melges 32s are getting ready for the Audi tron Sailing Series second act.

The Melges 32 boat with its 9 meters length is the biggest, most performing of all One Designs produced by the factory in Zenda (Wisconsin). Porto Venere harbor is now busy with many big names of the international sailing scenario, it will be like a “sailing rockstars” gathering chatting about their victories and their sport challenges.

A long list of sailing stars will be racing, starting from Jonathan Mckee 2-time Olympian (gold medal in Los Angeles racing in the FD Class and bronze medal in Sydney in the 49er) onboard Delta together with Morgan Reeser, silver medal in Barcelona with the 470, Cameron Appleton, tactician on Hedgehog, winner with Argo of the last Melges 32 World Championship and 3-time-America’s Cup winner and RC44 leader racing on Team Aqua.

The list goes on with Ray Davies, on Inga From Sweden already tactician aboard Emirates Team New Zealand and America’s Cup sailor. The 21 times world champion, Vasco Vascotto racing with Robertissima, and skipper on Mascalzone Latino at the 2007 America’s Cup.

Francesco Bruni, 3-time-Olympian and Luna Rossa tactician in San Francisco as well as Lorenzo Bressani, 3-time world champion in the Melges 24 Class and 2-time world champion in the Melges 32.

Andy Horton, 2006 Star Class World Champion, Portuguese Diogo Cayolla, 3-time-Olympian as well as Italian Olympians Nicola and Claudio Celon, Daniele and Giovanni Cassinari, Gabrio Zandonà, Matteo Ivaldi and Sandro Montefusco.

Eighteen boats docked in the harbor just opposite the Grand Hotel Porto Venere and St. Peter’s Church, making a very picturesque marine landscape impressed in poems of George Byron and David Herbert Lawrence and paintings of famous George Sand.

Audi tron Sailing Series act 2 is taking place between Friday and Sunday with the first practice race set on Thursday. As for the Melges 24 and the Audi Melges 20s, the racing course will be by the Gulf of Poets.
