New Antigua to Newport Record Confirmed

The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified a new Antigua to Newport. RI record by Lloyd Thornburg (USA), Brian Thompson (GBR) and a crew of 4 on the 70-foot trimaran Phaedo 3. The record of 03:05:54:49 was set on April 5-9, covering the 1560nm distance at an average of 20 knots. The previous time of 03:22:31:58 was set by Adrienne Cahalan (GBR) and Helena Darvelid (GBR) on the 110-foot catamaran Maiden II in May 2002.
