Home team takes lead at US Youth Match Racing Championship

Corona del Mar, CA (June 19, 2015) – U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship for the Rose Cup, hosted by Balboa Yacht Club, got underway early this afternoon off Newport Beach. The 12 teams completed 8 of the 11 flights in the Stage 1 Round Robin. The US Sailing National Championship runs through Sunday.

The start of racing today was postponed for about an hour due to insufficient wind. Teams raced in light breezes ranging between 4 and 6 knots early this afternoon. Winds picked up to approximately 8 to 10 knots later in the afternoon. Mostly sunny skies and late afternoon cloud coverage with diminished winds to close out the day. Racing was called for the day at 5pm PDT.

The 2014 champions got off to a perfect start. The home team from Balboa Yacht Club – Christophe Killian, Harrison Vandervort and Jack Martin earned eight points in as many races.
