Record Ratified for English Channel Crossing

(October 13, 2015) – The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified a new outright world record for the 138nm course from Cowes (GBR) to Dinard (FRA). On September 22, Lloyd Thornberg (USA) and Brian Thompson (GBR) plus a crew of 5 sailed the MOD 70 Phaedo 3 to a new time of 04:48:57 for an average of 28.66 knots. The previous record was held by the 105-ft trimaran Lending Club, when skippers Renaud Laplanche (USA/FRA) and Ryan Breymaier (USA) in April 2015 completed the course in 05:14:47.
