VIDEO: Discussing the IMOCA Foils

Published on November 6th, 2015

The 12th edition of the Transat Jacques Vabre had 20 entrants in the 60-foot IMOCA class, with close attention given to five new generation VPLP-Verdier designed boats that include side foils.

The high attrition rate of the race has included the retirement of four of these boats, with only skippers Armel Le Cléac’h and Erwan Tabarly on Banque Populaire VIII still competing, while the other four succumbed to insurmountable issues.

This video explains the science of the design, and what the skippers said before the start of the race on October 25.
