Nilaya, Tenaz win Superyacht Challenge Antigua

Published on January 31st, 2016

(January 31, 2016) – Superb sailing conditions prevailed for the final day of racing at the 2016 Superyacht Challenge Antigua (Jan 29-31). Fifteen knots of easterly breeze, pumping up to 20 knots in gusty squalls, provided exciting conditions for the fabulous array of superyachts taking part.

The staggered start today had the fleet beating to windward, setting off for the 17.5 mile triangular course, deep into the Caribbean Sea.

In the Corsairs Class, the 112-ft sloop Nilaya nailed the best start of the day to take their third win on corrected time and winning the class by three points from the 147-ft sloop Visione. Swan 90 Freya was two minutes behind Visione on corrected time in Race 4 to claim third in class.

In the Buccaneers Class, today’s race was the decider between the two leading yachts. The 128-ft sloop Tenaz got a cracking start and powered away to take line honours and the win on corrected time by a healthy margin, sealing their class victory. The Oyster 82 Zig Zag was second in the last race of the regatta to claim a well-deserved runner up in their first Superyacht Challenge Antigua. The 108-ft ketch Marama was third in Race 4, to take third in class.

A full report will follow tonight’s Prize Giving Cocktail Party, which will be held between the pillars at the Admiral’s Inn Hotel. Antiguan sensation, Asher Otto and Itchy Feet, will be playing live for a rousing finale to the 6th edition of the Superyacht Challenge Antigua.
