All Is Analyzed: Chapter 1, Collision At Sea

Using the 2013 movie ‘All is Lost’, the American Sailing Association provides a learning exercise where they go scene by scene through the film to see what can be learned from the fictional character’s decision making process as he finds himself struggling to keep his cruising boat afloat in the middle of the ocean after a collision with an errant shipping container.

In this opening chapter of ASA’s Sailing Movie Workshop the skipper is faced with a terrible situation while sailing alone at sea – he slams into a floating container from a cargo ship. The boat is severely damaged and he does what he thinks was best. Do you agree?
