Warning Regarding Prohibited Events

Published on April 19th, 2016

Following World Sailing’s recent announcement that two IFKO events – the “1st Junior Kitesports Freestyle World Cup” and the “Kitefoil Silver Cup GP World Series” – had been added to the list of World Sailing Prohibited Events, the impact may soon be felt by those choosing to participate in the IFKO events.

Regarding the upcoming KiteFoil SilverCup in Villeneuve-Lès-Maguelone on May 13-16 – after consultation with World Sailing – the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) is forced to confirm that riders competing at this event will not be able to register for the upcoming European and World Championships, and the IKA Kitefoil GoldCup events in 2016 due to participation in a World Sailing Prohibited Event and consequently losing their eligibility as required to compete in IKA World and Continental Championships.

The IFKO events had been deemed prohibited by World Sailing due to improper designation as a world event or world championship [Regulation 19.15(c)]. Similar action will be taken with regard to competitors participating in any other events with improper designation as a world event or world championship [World Sailing Regulation 19.15(c)].

World Sailing is the governing body for the sport of sailing. IKA, an international class of World Sailing, is the only authority to govern water-based kite sail competitions.
