Comanche Transatlantic Record Confirmed

Published on August 3rd, 2016

The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified the establishment of a new transatlantic monohull world record set by the 100-foot Comanche owned by Jim Clark and Kristy Hinze Clark (USA).

Sailed by skipper Casey Smith (USA), navigator Stan Honey (USA) and 15 crew on July 22-28, the Comanche team completed the 2880 nm course in 5 days, 14 hours, 21 minutes, and 25 seconds (21.44 knots). The previous record of 6d 17h 52m 39s was set in October 2003 by Robert Miller’s 139-foot Mari-Cha IV (GBR).

The WSSRC was established by the International Yacht Racing Union (now renamed World Sailing) in 1972 to create standards for records, and WSSRC remains the leading authority in verifying record claims.
