San Pedro, CA (August 19, 2016) – The 2016 Club 420 Association North Americans continued today hosted by Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club in conjunction with the Club 420 Class Association. Thirty-five boats are competing in the regatta held on the open waters of the Pacific Ocean off of the yacht club.

Racing got started just after 12 p.m. today and the temperatures were in the mid 70s with winds that built to about 18 knots from the West and remained for all of the races. As the afternoon progressed the sun stayed out, temperatures were in the mid 70s and the strong winds continued.

“Absolutely great conditions for a North American Championship, challenging with solid breeze and chop,” says John Morgan, Club 420 Class president. “The race committee pulled the trigger on four solid races today and did a great job.”

The competitors sailed on trapezoid courses and completed four races today making the regatta total seven races. The racing remained close among the fleet with Eduardo Mintzias and Declan McGranahan holding onto their lead from yesterday. Today they finished the day with 20 points tied for points with second place Jack Johansson and Claudia Loaicono who moved up from fourth place today. The rest of the fleet’s scores are close and the next two days of racing will be exciting.

Racing will continue tomorrow with another 12 p.m. first warning scheduled. The last day of racing will be on Sunday, August 21.
