Cowles win International 420 Midwinters

Thirty-four teams completed in the International 420 Midwinter Championship, held February 18-20 on the ocean south of Government Cut and east of Virginia Key in Miami, FL.

Carmen and Emma Cowles took the title, with 6 teams winning at least one race in the 8-race series. Tommy Rice/ Trevor Bornarth finished ten points back in second with Emma Kaneti/ Ciara Rodriguez-Horan in third. The Cowles were also awarded the top girls team trophy.

The Midwinters was the first of two qualifying events for Team USA selection to the 2017 Youth World Championship. The second and final qualifier is the US Youth Champs in June in Corpus Christi, TX. The top girls and top boys teams will represent the USA at the Youth Worlds in December 2017.

The Midwinters was also the final qualifying event for Team USA selection for I420 Europeans (7 Open, 7 Women teams) and I420 Jr. Europeans (3 Open, 3 Women teams) this summer in Athens, Greece and Riva del Garda, Italy, respectively. The final team announcement will come in approximately three weeks.
