Chicago Mac: Done and Dusted

Mackinac Island, MI (July 18, 2017) – The curtain finally closed on the 109th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, with 200 of the 297 starters completing the 289.4 nm course. After 50 knot winds battered the fleet on the night of July 15/16, very light winds followed, with a third of the fleet tapping out along the way. The overall winners were David & Peter Askew’s Reichel/Pugh 74 Wizard (Chicago-Mackinac Trophy; big boats), J/109 TOA owned by Bruce Danly and Jim Mitchell (Mackinac Cup; smaller boats), John Palmer’s Jeanneau 64 DS Trois Vignes (Cruising Division), and the ORMA 60 Arete’ owned by Frederick M Warner IV (Multihull Division).

Background: The 42-boat Cruising Division started on July 14, with the balance of the 297 teams in the 109th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac getting underway Saturday, July 15 for the 289.4 nm course from the Chicago Lighthouse, just off Navy Pier, to Mackinac Island.
