Scow-apolooza on Geneva Lake

Published on August 9th, 2017

The Lake Geneva Yacht Club, founded in 1874 and one of the oldest and most renowned yacht clubs in America, will host the 2017 Inland Lake Yachting Association Championships August 16-20 on Geneva Lake in Fontana, WI.

Established in 1898 to encourage and promote yachting and interlake racing, the ILYA now includes 51 yacht and sailing clubs in ten states and the District of Columbia. To fulfill its mission, the ILYA supports a limited number of sanctioned classes.

This year’s Inland, which is expected to attract more than 200 boats and 500 competitors, will determine the top sailors in the A-Scow (38 feet, 6-7 crew), E-Scow (28 feet, 3-4 crew), C-Scow (20 feet, 2-3 crew), and the MC-Scow (16 feet, 1–2 crew).

Entry fees are discounted for youth skippers, and the race schedule during the five day competition permits sailors to participate in multiple classes.

The 2017 Inland will celebrate its families of the ILYA families, families that have sailed the scow-designed classes and the extended family of friends who share in the ILYA’s traditions and heritage. The ILYA will honor selected sailing families on August 18 with a dinner party at the Lake Geneva Yacht Club.

The Inlands are the Scow-apolooza of the sailing season.
