Racing begins at 49er and 49erFX Worlds

Matosinhos, Portugal (August 30, 2017) – After two days of waiting, the winds finally arrived today for the start of the 49er and 49erFX World Championships. The qualifying stage began with three races for the 81 men’s teams and two races for the 56 women’s teams, with James Peters/ Fynn Sterritt (GBR) and Alexandra Maloney/ Molly Meech (NZL) taking the early lead in their fleets. The qualifying stage concludes tomorrow with the top group advancing to compete for the title. Racing continues daily to the Final on Saturday September 2.
