Third time is a charm at J/70 Worlds

Published on September 14th, 2017

Porto Cervo, Italy (September 14, 2017) – After the first two days of the J/70 World Championship were cancelled due to excessive winds, the qualifying series finally got underway today under clear skies and a westerly breeze ranging from 12 to 20 Knots.

With the 161 teams divided into four qualifying fleets, three races were held with each fleet facing each other once. Dominating the day was Peter Duncan’s Relative Obscurity (USA) team with a 3-1-1, with Claudia Rossi’s Petite Terrible #Audi (ITA) just one point back with Franco Solerio’s L’Elagain (ITA) six points off the lead in third.

Leading the 72-boat Corinthian Class is White Hawk (ITA), Gianfranco Noè; Give Me Five (FRA), Follin Robin; and Marnatura (ESP), Luis Bugallo.

With the qualifying series now complete, scores carry over into the championship series tomorrow with the fleet evenly split into Gold and Silver divisions.

Racing for 161 teams will be held September 12 to 16.
