Green Light for Virgin Islands

The storms that damaged the Caribbean were historic, but the can-do spirit of the region is determined to stand again. But critical to their success is the support of visitors, and two popular events in the Virgin Islands will be ready to receive

• USVI: Never in the 45-year history of the St. Thomas International Regatta has a fall storm, even a major one, interrupted the running of the ‘Crown Jewel of Caribbean Yacht Racing’, and it will not in 2018. The host St. Thomas Yacht Club suffered some damage and the fleet took more than a few dents, but the venue for fantastic round the island races is still very much in place. The dates for the 2018 event are March 23 to 25 in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Details.

• BVI: The BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival, located at Nanny Cay Marina, will run from March 26 to April 1, 2018. It might not be in exactly the same format, but the organizers are focused on continuing “It’s all about people coming together in order to win,” says Regatta Director, Judy Petz. “That’s our message. Together we will come through this. Just like crew on a boat have to pull together to win a regatta, the BVI Spring Regatta will come together and we will have a regatta this season. For those who want to come back to race or cruise the BVIs, we welcome you. The community needs your support.” Details.
