Hong Kong to London Record Ratified

The World Sailing Speed Record Council has confirmed the establishment of a new Hong Kong to London World Record. Giovanni Soldini (ITA) and four crew sailed the MOD70 Maserati from January 18 to February 23 for a distance of 12948 nm, setting a new elapsed time of 36:02:37:12 (avg speed 14.94 knots). The previous record was set in 2008 by Lionel Lemonchois and crew on the 100-foot maxi catamaran Gitana 13 (41:21:26:34).
