Long Island Bahamas Regatta

Published on June 9th, 2019

These photos by Jan Pehrson are of the A-Class winners of the 52nd Annual Long Island, Bahamas Regatta, sailed June 5-8, 2019. This sailing regatta is the second largest in The Bahamas, next to the National Family Island Regatta held in The Exumas. It is the major fund-raiser on the island. Skippers from throughout The Bahamas compete for cash prizes and trophies in A, B, and C class races.

Some of the sailing sloops that take part in the regatta are built right on the island in the settlement of Mangrove Bush. There is also lots to eat and drink, including tasty native mutton dishes, plus a kids’ corner, games for the entire family, and performances by local bands. The regatta takes place during the Bahamas’ Labor Day holiday weekend in June.
