Preparing for Category 1 Sailing

Published on October 22nd, 2015

A free boat preparation seminar will cover how to prepare your boat to comply with the offshore safety rules for Category 1 Sailing. The seminar aims to take the mystery out of sometimes confusing requirements and will also provide tips and information on the best, easiest, fastest and least expensive ways to bring your boat into compliance.

The 2016 Annapolis to Bermuda Race committee is presenting the seminar to assist with the requirements of the race and to describe the inspection process before the race. The seminar will be held on October 31at 9 AM at the Eastport Yacht Club in Annapolis, MD. Presenters are Captain Mike Lehmkuhl and professional surveyor Alex Zahl.

The seminar is open to any skippers, crew or individuals with any interest in racing, preparing to race or even thinking about racing their boat in an offshore Category 1 event. Cruisers who want to be fully prepared to sail offshore in safety are more than welcome. The event is focused on the A2B race but is useful for any offshore sailor.

Please note that the 2016 race is now extremely cruiser-racer friendly, with autopilots allowed in every class and powered winches also being specifically allowed. No fee required but please register if possible by sending your name, and boat name if already entered, to seajuniper@gmail.com as soon as possible.
