Sail Canada Governance Update

Kingston, ON (December 10, 2015) – Arising from changes to Sail Canada by-laws approved at the recent Annual General Meeting, the Sail Canada Board has made the following appointments:

♦ Sail Canada Director Bob Greenhalgh is appointed as Sail Canada Treasurer. In this position he is charged with overseeing the financial affairs of the Corporation, ensuring that sound financial policies and practices are in place that will lead to the long term financial sustainability of the Association. The Treasurer reports to the Board on a regular basis while also ensuring compliance with relevant Acts and CRA regulations.

♦ Richard Ballantyne takes over from Christine Searle as Board secretary. The Secretary is the chief administrative officer of the Association, ensuring good governance practices and corporate compliance. Richard will be assisted in this position by Gen Manning, Sail Canada’s Office Manager.

♦ Jen Provan, a two-time Olympic sailor, (2004 – 470, 2008 – Yngling) has been co-opted to Sail Canada’s Board of Directors. She will fill the vacant female athlete director role until the next athlete election in spring 2016.

Sail Canada President, Todd Irving, is looking forward to working with the incoming board of directors saying, “Sail Canada’s directors have a wide range of skill and experience that will be a great asset to the leadership of the organization.”

The Sail Canada Board of Directors is meeting on December 11th and 12th in Toronto, ON to discuss strategic planning and implementation for 2016 and beyond.
