Tom Allen Maintains Lead at Lightning Midwinters

Published on March 15th, 2016

Miami, FL (March 15, 2016) – The Lightning Southern Circuit continued with the second day of the 58th Annual Lightning Midwinter Championship. Gorgeous conditions provided four races for the 32 teams, with Tom Allen and his crew of son Karl and Jenn Millar remaining in the lead but Allan Terhune and Tito Gonzalez are tied, just six points behind.

The fleet was postponed onshore for a an hour and a half waiting for the fog to lift and the breeze to fill in. The breeze continued to build throughout the day. Race 1 started with the wind out of 170 at about 7-8 knots. Race 2 it picked up to 8-10 knots with the left side being more favorable. The breeze increased to 10-14 knots for Races 3 and 4 and the breeze shifted to the left to 160. The pin end was popular all day, but with lane management and small oscillating shifts, some teams gained getting right of the fleet.

Two more races complete the series on Wednesday, March 16.
