MONSOON CUP BRAND VALUATION

SURPASSES ALL EXPECTATIONS

The Monsoon Cup 2006 Event Report was presented today at a gala luncheon attended by DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansur and  Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Azalina Othman Said.

The independent audited Event Valuation by Brand Advantage Australia, that measures both tangible and intangible assets through a sophisticated economic model, has delivered results for both the Event and sponsors surpassing expectations.

The overall identified and assessed market value has been determined at RM 315 Million (USD 90.5 Million) when accounted against the financial commitment of RM 20.068 Milliion (event costs). The Monsoon Cup in only its second year has delivered a Return on Investment (ROI) multiplier of near 15 times on the event investment.

“Having used our event and sponsorship measurement tools and undertaken major valuations for clients like Qantas Airways, the National Australia Bank and Australia Post, we have determined ROI on properties such as the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup, Rugby World Cup, Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Commonwealth Games for our clients.  In comparison, the Monsoon Cup valuation represents a very high ROI result when benchmarked against other international sporting events,” said John Elliott, Managing Director of Brand Advantage.

In addition, ROI valuations were undertaken for each of the key sponsors and stakeholders – Air Asia, Astro, BMW, TM, Richard Mille Timepiece, MasterCard, the National Fitness Council and Tourism Malaysia.

All key growth indicators – Gross Media Value (GMV), event attendance, TV viewership and broadcast minutes -   have shown strong year on year growth.  These have also returned solid results for each of the Monsoon Cup partners.

The Monsoon Cup 2007 will be held in Pulau Duyong, Kuala Terengganu from Nov 28 – Dec 2 and will see the event crown the World Champion for the 2006/2007 season of the World Match Racing Tour.
