Contest Award Winner: Island Sailing

During a layday from 'normal' racing at the 2002 Grenada Sailing Festival, the local workboats compete. This is the start of one class - the idea is to have your boat and crew lined up on a run in the shallows and when the gun goes, the Skippers run from behind a line drawn on the sand further up the beach, leap into their boats and race around a course no more than 100 yards off shore. The finish is the best bit - they drive the workboats under full sail straight up the sand running back up to the race Committee tent where they must down a large rum to be declared finished!!
