Scuttlebutt Photos: Largest Travel Lift
(Chula Vista, CA - Feb 15, 2007): The Marine Group Boat Works recently completed a nine-month, multi-million dollar construction project along San Diego Bay. Among their improvements was the addition of a massive travel lift, allowing San Diego to attract some of the biggest and most expensive boats from around the world. Weighing in at 1.3 million pounds, the lift was transported to the Chula Vista site from Wisconsin in pieces aboard 19 18-wheeler trucks. With this travel lift - which was inaugurated
Feb 5 - the facility is now able to accommodate loads up to 665 tons (220 feet long and 54 feet wide). This is only the second lift over 500 tons ever to be made in the U.S., and will be the largest operating within the country.
