Here is the launch of l’Hydroptère in La Seyne sur Mer, near Toulon, where she will first sail in the harbour of Toulon before proceeding to Marseille, her base for the record campaign. Port Saint Louis du Rhône, near Marseille, offers a flat sea and a steady wind and it is in front of Napoleon Beach that l’Hydroptère will attempt the record, aiming to break the mythical 50-knot speed barrier. After an 18 month restoration by Rockport Marine, the P Class yawl BERNICE (1916) recently was launched and is seen here sailing in Penobscot Bay, Maine prior to be delivered to Larchmont NY . Photo by Ry Hills.

This week was the BMW Oracle Racing team's turn to capsize and bust their mast, which they did while training with their Extreme 40's in Valencia, Spain. Here they are prior to the accident. Photo by Gilles Martin-Raget.

Okay, pretty cool to win the leg of the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race that started in Santa Cruz, California, which is a pretty cool town, then pass through the Panama Canal and finish in Jamaica. Here is the team onboard Hull & Humber after they secured their fourth leg victory out of six legs, with the final leg beginning this weekend.

In 1986 S&S developed a board game which takes each player on a yacht race around the world. The game comes with 360 game cards, each with six questions on topics such as seamanship, yacht equipment, navigation and yachting trivia. Each sailor plays with a two-inch-tall pewter yacht, each a classic S&S design. Recently, S&S unearthed a handful of these games in brand new condition, in the box still wrapped in cellophane, and wants to raffle two of them off. Simply send an email to: info@sparkmanstephens.com with the subject line "Game Raffle" and be sure to include contact information such as name, address and telephone number. Enter by June 15, 2008, and the drawing will be July 1, 2008

(Richland, Michigan) Last weekend the Gull Lake Yacht Club and Star Fleet hosted the 55th Annual Tulip Time Tuneup Regatta on a very windy and brisk Gull Lake. Tom Londrigan Jr. with crew Steve Cutting dominated (1,2,1,2,1) the fleet of 26 Stars to win his 2nd pair of the prized Wooden Shoes awarded to the top 5 finishers. The second downwind leg of the 3rd race was a sight to see w/ boats surfing and lots of wipeouts.
