Scuttlebutt Photos of the Week
December 5-10, 2009

From the Paradise Cay Match Race last weekend, where a winter storm gifted the racers with not only good wind, but a pot of gold as well. No word from the teams as to who found it. Photo by Kristen Lane.

From Murray de Lues: "Here are a couple of photos from Wednesday night racing here in Tauranga NZ. Steve Roberts Melges 24 and David Pet's Young Rocket 30 Extreme (top). Extreme is living proof that sailing a high performance yacht is not restricted to young people. Two in their 70's, two in their 60's adding up to an average age of old."

From Howard Elliott: "This photo was taken at the Pacific MiniGames held in the Cook Islands in Sep/Oct 2009. This is the leaders in the women's Radial fleet as a severe storm front approached. The colour of the water changed dramatically by the minute. A spectacular venue."

When did America's Cup teams also require their own dedicated ocean going transportation? The 33rd Match is clearly not like the others. Here we see the Ocean Lady anchored in San Diego Bay, where the 175 meter cargo ship is getting loaded with all the gear from the BMW Oracle Racing team, including their full assembled 90-foot trimaran.

American Anna Tunnicliffe, who won the Gold at the 2008 Olympics in the Laser Radial, recently announced that she would seek to represent the U.S. at the 2012 Olympics in the women's match racing event. However, she clearly has not let go of her Laser Radial training, as shown by these photos taken this week in Perth, Australia.

Some days you're the bug, and some days you're the windshield.
