McNay/Hughes win 2013 470 U.S. National Championship

Published on November 26th, 2013

Summery conditions and a good seabreaze served up perfect racing conditions at the 470 U.S. National Championship hosted at the Lauderdale Yacht Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on November 23-24. Seven races were held over the two days of racing, with big waves and a breeze of 8-12 knots on day 1, followed by a light 7 knot breeze morning on day 2 which built to 20 knots for the final race 7.

It was virtually a clean sweep for Stuart McNay/David Hughes (USA) who took the win in 6 of the 7 races, just narrowly missing out in race 3 to finish in second place. Finishing 10 points behind from results of second, third and fourth place finishes were the 470 women team of Annie Haeger/Briana Provancha (USA), with Switzerland’s Yannick Brauchli/Romuald Hausser in third. The Swiss pair had a challenge on their hands to finish in the top three, having missed the first two races due to equipment problems.

Final Results – Top 5 of 10 teams
1. Stu McNay/Dave Hughes – 6 points
2. Annie Haeger/Briana Provancha (USA) – 16 pts
3. Yannick Brauchli/Romuald Hausser (SUI) – 22 pts
