Georgetown wins World University Match Racing Championships

The 7th edition of the World University Match Racing Championships was held June 30-July 5 in Trentino, Italy on Lake Ledro. Nineteen teams hailing from 14 countries competed in the open category, with Nevin Snow (USA) defeating 2012 title holder Samuel Gilmour (AUS) in the Final. Snow’s team, which represented Georgetown University, included Katia Dasilva, Alex Post, and AJ Reiter.

Gilmour finished the round robin with a scorecard of 7-1, giving them the top spot, and a position straight into the Quarter-Finals, where they beat the French to advance to the Semi-Finals. Snow overcame Japan in the other Semi-Final.

The Finals saw 3-7 knots of wind, with the Americans displaying experience in the J/22s, providing an edge in Final, which they won 2-0.

The event was part of the biannual International University Sports Federation’s program which featured 24 World University Championships in 2014.
