The first decade of the 21st century saw the TP52 class grow to become the most prominent professional keelboat circuit in the sport. But its peak was 2008, after which excessive costs to compete severely dwindled participation... ultimately leading to the collapse of its MedCup Cicuit in 2011.
But the boats remain extremely cool, and new efforts prompted the birth of the 52 Super Series in 2012. Four teams attended the inaugural event in Spain, Trofeo Conde de Godo de Vela regatta, which saw 2011 MedCup champion Quantum Racing continue their dominance to take the title.
