Scuttlebutt Photos: Dinghy sailing in South Africa
Photos by Onne van der Wal
Said Onne van der Wal, "I just returned from a trip to visit family in South Africa, where they live on a lake called Zeekoevlei (Hippo lake in Dutch), also home to the Zeekoevlei Yacht Club. This site is where most of South Africa's successful sailors, both dinghy's and keel boats, have raced at one time or another. Below are a handful of images I took during the interschool dinghy championships. The boats you see sailing is a Dabchick - a South African designed and built youth boat that has been used to teach kids sailing and has been around since before the Optimist and Laser. It is a great youth training boat and has helped many famous South African sailors learn the ropes."
