Scuttlebutt Photos: Volvo Ocean Race 05/06 - Leg 3 Start
Melbourne, Australia  -  February 12  -  Event website

Scuttlebutt wasn't at the start of Leg 3, but from the images below, it sure looks like whatever plan VOR entrant movistar had for the start, it sure didn't work out too well.

movistar (black hull with white sails) looks good here as windward boat at the start.

movistar is first with the spinnaker, but with a much lower heading than the fleet.

This angle shows movistar with the spinnaker (just forward of Pirates), but the fleet to leeward looks to be doing fine with jibs sheeted in tight.

The fleet has all gone to kites, but movistar has now sagged below the fleet.

Fleet is beginning to seperate, with movistar furthest to leeward.

Like we said, Scuttlebutt wasn't at the start, and maybe movistar wanted to own the low road to on the 1,450 mile leg to Wellington, but from these images, it looks like their plan didn't work out too well. Agree or disagree? Post your comments here
