This comes from Peter Alarie, who last week was at the ISAF Worlds in Cascais to work with the USA 470 team of Erin Maxwell and Isabelle Kinsolving (USA 1736). The weather for the event was off the charts, and here is a dandy of the American girls popping out of the water in big wind and waves.

Photographer extraordinaire Carlo Borlenghi was in Valencia when British upstart America's Cup TEAMORIGIN took their new steed (formerly SUI 75) for its first sail. Whilst out sailing, GBR 75 took the opportunity to line up against the replica yacht ‘America’ which was in Valencia for the 32nd America’s Cup Match. The replica ‘America’ is a copy of the yacht that won the very first race around the Isle of Wight back in 1851, beating all of Queen Victoria’s fleet to win the ‘Hundred Guineas trophy’ which was subsequently re-named the ‘America’s Cup’ after the name of the yacht that won it. TEAMORIGIN plans to enter the 33rd and 34th America’s Cup in a bid to bring the ‘Auld Mug’ back to British shores from where it first started.

The RC 44 is a light displacement, high performance One Design sailing boat designed by three-time America’s Cup winner Russell Coutts, together with Slovenian naval architect Andrej Justin. The class has organized a seven-event Championship Tour in Europe, where the photo shows the five boat fleet off the start line on Lake Garda in the Malcesine Cup (Malcesine, ITA). (Nantucket, MA) -- The Great Harbor Yacht Club announced the opening of the “Jobson Sailing Center”. Gary Jobson, GHYC’s honorary sailing director, presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony June 6, 2007. The construction of the building marks the beginning of a new era for Nantucket’s waterfront and the first stage in the construction of the Great Harbor Yacht Club complex. The sailing center will be the focal point for all sailing programs run by the club. GHYC sailing program is in its third year of operation and has grown to provide sailing instruction and coaching for all level sailors and racers, children and adults alike.

Not often that a photographer gets into a heli for a one-design event, but local shooter Cory Silken got air last week at the Newport Regatta and catches the Etchells train as they pass a mark.

Less than one month after the launch, Frenchman Francis Joyon has been testing his Nigel Irens designed 30-meter trimaran Idec that will surely have sights on record racing in the near future. Photo: François Van Malleghem / DPPI / IDEC

The legendary Alan Gurney-designed 73-footer Windward Passage is on the hard, with yacht designer Alan Andrews working to pimp this famous ride. Originally built in 1968, Andrews has been asked to design a new keel for Windward Passage. By applying new technology to the design, he expects to lighten the boat by over 4 tons while maintaining the same righting moment. Near as he can tell, this will be Passage's fourth keel and the first major revision in about 18 years. Also scheduled to be modernized is the rudder.

Darien, Connecticut -- Sixty-eight girls aged 9-15 years participated this month in a Optimist clinic and regatta hosted by Noroton Yacht Club and co-headed by Kaity Storck and Laura Clark. Top women sailors from around the country enjoyed excellent wind, weather, Sno Cones and, as Rebecca Dellenbaugh noted, the wisdom to “help beat the boys.”

Solo sailor Alex Thomson has had his first sail this week on his brand new state-of-the-art Open 60. Faster and more powerful than her predecessor, the innovative new HUGO BOSS looks like no other on the Open 60 circuit. She was designed by Finot-Conq over an 18-month period to be a top competitor in the Barcelona World Race 2007 and the Vendée Globe 2008. Project managed by Jason Carrington and built by Neville Hutton in the UK, she is guaranteed to turn heads when she competes in Cowes Week and the Fastnet Race this Summer.
