From Michael Kern: "They say a good offence is the best defence. To that end, I am submitting these photos of our C&C99 “Transmission” broaching during that 2007 C&C99 Great Lakes Championship held on Lake Ontario at Etobicoke Yacht Club before someone else does. Thanks to Arlene Taylor aboard the RC vessel for snapping the shots. No spinnakers were destroyed in the making of this manoeuvre."  Sunset on Backman's Island, near Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Sent in by Scott Covey, the photo captures the scene from a late season family cruise on his J/29. It doesn't get much better.   Butthead Lili Colby figured that this week we needed a real “BUTT SHOT”. At the Newport International Boat Show, Captain Mike of Newport’s beloved 12 Meter Intrepid and Bluestorm rep Brad Haverly prove that anyone can wear a Bluestorm USCG approved waist pack PFD. A sunset sail on Intrepid provided the fulfillment of a life long dream for Rob Fischer, a buyer for Ramsey Outdoor in Paramus, N.J., with the above photo showing Rob at the wheel. “You have to understand” confessed Rob, “most teenage boys had posters of swimsuit girls in their bedrooms…I had Intrepid! This was an opportunity of a life time.”  KIALOA II was one of six (?) boats of that name owned by Jim Kilroy. She was designed in 1963 by Sparkman and Stephens, built in Harbor City, California and launched in 1964. Her design goal was to compete and win in the "maxi" ocean racing category of that era, and went on to win most major ocean races during a span of nearly a decade. Among her highlights were winning the 1965 Transpac Race (Los Angeles - Honolulu) and the 1971 Sydney-Hobart race. Seen here in Portovenere, Italy last month. Photo submitted by David Rose.  From Betsy Lawless: "This photo of a SKUD 18 was taken from the IFDS Worlds Regatta held recently at the Rochester Yacht Club. We had 29 countries participating and 93 competitors. The disabled sailors sailed in 3 different kinds of boats; 2.4mR (1 person boat), SKUD 18 (2 person), and Sonars (3 person) boats. The competitors left a wonderful impression on our club and its many volunteers. We feel very fortunate that we were able to have this regatta. What amazing competitors!"  These little classics - the Folkboat - first came to the U.S. more than 50 years ago, and the San Francisco fleet this year celebrated the 30th anniversary of its International Regatta.
