On Tuesday, October 23, 2007, the first unit of the one-design monohull Veolia Oceans® series was launched at Caen by Marc Lefebvre from V1D2 yard in the presence of Jean-Marie Finot the architect, Jean-Marie Vaur from JMV Industries (Cherbourg) the builder, almost 2 years prior to the day of the first edition of the SolOceans set for 25 October 2009. The SolOceans is the first single-handed oceanic round the world race sailed on equal footing on sixteen-metre (52.5') high-tech one-design monohulls all identical to each other: the Veolia Oceans®. With 19 evenly tuned Snipes, the U.S. Championship of Champions was held at Mission Bay YC in San Diego, CA. Here is one of the many close starts, but after 19 races, it was US Snipe National Champion Ernesto Rodriguez and Megan Place that ran away from the fleet. Photo by Michael Jacoway.  Photographer Daniel Forster picked up on the thread involving the Royal Yachting Association scolding one of their leading British 49er teams for an obscene boat name, and recalled that he had taken this photo of the 12m Vanity's spinnaker during the Valencia 12 Metre event. Maybe the rules on topless bathing are more relaxed in Spain.  In preparation for the US Olympic Trials, it was vital to learn as much as possible about the local conditions to succeed. Photos from 2007 Albacore International Championships, where there were upwards of 40 boats in the regatta from US, Canada, and UK and they got a taste of everything that the Chesapeake has to offer...light and mellow in the first half of the week and big breeze into the 20's later on.
