Light winds prevailed for the Turkey Day Regatta, hosted by Alamitos Bay YC in Long Beach, CA on November 17-18, 2007. Among the 262 boats in 17 classes was this family team competing in the Lido 14 class and the tight racing as seen in the 29er class. Photos by Rich Roberts/underthesunphotos.com.

The legendary Alan Gurney-designed 73-footer Windward Passage has been on the hard at Westerly Marine yard in Santa Ana, CA, replacing her stubby keel with a more modern shape. The fin has just been attached, with the bulb coming next. Click here for the "before" photos.

Like ducks on the pond, here is a row of Islander 36’s at Coyote Point YC near San Francisco, CA. The one in the middle is an I36 Freeport. All the rest are the standard I36’s. Photo by Dan Knox.

Here is a photo from the Jollyboat Auckland Champs held 18th/19th Nov, with Colin Brocas demonstrating his form on the trapeze. The Jollyboat is a plywood dinghy that John Spencer designed just prior to the Cherub. More at www.jollyboat.co.nz. Photo by Matt Hall-Smith.

Lou Abrahams (left) and Tony Cable will be competing in their 44th Rolex Sydney Hobart Race when the fleet starts in Sydney Harbour at 1pm on Boxing Day, 26 December. Their participation in the 2007 event will equal the late John Bennetto’s record of 44 races.

The International 12 Metre Class recently celebrated its 100th birthday with a four regatta “2007 Centennial Tour” where eighteen boats competed. Although the Centennial Tour did not have an overall winner, Trivia (above) was the oldest winning 12 Metre. Built in 1939 by Camper & Nicholson and designed by Charles Nicholson, her current owner, Wilfried Beeck is also the 12 Metre Class Vice President for Northern Europe Fleet. Of the one hundred and eighty-five 12 Metres named since 1907, 73 boats still sail with 40 certified to race in 2008. Newport, Rhode Island has 18 and there is a large group in Northern Europe. The class website is www.12mrclass.com.
