Famous photog Daniel Forster merged these images through the magic of photo editing, but Larry Ellison (left) and Ernesto Berterelli are going to have to meet without assistance soon to get the 33rd America's Cup back on the train tracks now that the NY Supreme Court decided on Nov 27, 2007 that Ellison's team is the new Challenger of Record.

In an historical moment, the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club membership elected Bermudian Ralph Richardson to be Commodore of the club for the 2008-10 cycle. Richardson, a world-class sailor/navigator and the Executive Director of The ACE Foundation, was the club’s first black flag officer three years ago. He will now be the first black commodore in the 162-year-old club’s history when he is installed in January. Richardson joined the RBYC in 2000.

50+ international competitors are in Fortaleza, Brasil for the 2007 Formula Windsurfing World Championships, with the breeze and swell pumping for the event. Most of the fleet are split between the Starboard and F2 formula boards – with one performing better in the chop and the other in flat water, as well as a handful of sailmakers including North, Neil Pyrde, Gaastra and Mauisails. Not surprisingly though is how most of the fleet is on Kashy fins- the new standard in carbon windsurfing foils. As for me, if I learn something new about racing or sailing each day, I'm stoked! Doing it in a pair of board shorts in November is even better! -- Steve Bodner, USA 4, http://www.stevebodner.blogspot.com

The changing of the seasons means that it is time to move the maxis from the Med to the Carribean. Why not make it a race? What might have begun as a gentlemen’s bet between skippers has escalated into the first edition of the Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, which started this week from the Spanish city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and will take the seven participating maxis 2,600 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean island of St Maarten.

This event slipped through the cracks this summer, as the photo shows the World Champions, Gisa Wortberg und Peter Wanders, during a race of the International Flying Junior World Championship on San Francisco Bay in July. The FJ class in North America is largely the dumbed-down Club version used in youth sailing, with the International class coming complete with trapeze and tapered mast, ably taking on the strong thermal breeze that SF bay dishes out each summer.

UK photographer Sally Armstrong provided these images from the Lymington Town Winter Series taken a couple weeks ago. We checked out the Lymington Town Sailing Club website and found the full range of boats, though these pics do provide that dreary, traditional look that might simply reinforce the limited view of UK sailing by those that try to limit their outings to the Med, Key West, and the Caribbean. -- www.solentpics.com

Last Friday, photog supreme Thierry Martinez was there for Francis Joyon’s start from Brest (FRA) of his solo round the world record attempt. Joyan and his 97-foot maxi trimaran IDEC have been rattling off 500+ mile days during the first week, and his current pace now puts him one day in advance of the pace set by current world record holder Ellen Macarthur in 2005. -- http://www.thmartinez.com
