On Feb 20, 2008 McLaughlin helped “The Salty Sisters” christen their new fleet of
McLaughlin Racing Opti’s. This group of women is an organization 50 plus years old.
There are over 250 women members. Once a week they get together at the St. Pete Sailing
Center and race Opti’s. No kidding - we watched over 20 boats on a starting line. Some
active members are in there 70’s. -- McLaughlin Spring Newsletter
US Star 2008 Olympic reps John Dane III and Austin Sperry seen leading the fleet above, a position they would like to hold next week during the Star Bacardi Cup in Miami, FL.

Photographer Erik Simonson was on hand when the 110-foot maxi-multihull Gitana 13 crossed the finish line of La Route de l’Or just off the infamous island of Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay shortly after sunrise on Thursday, completing the 14,000 mile record route from New York. Alinghi team president, Ernesto Bertarelli, was honoured this week at the Audi Sailor of the Year gala, where he received Italy's Special Award for the promotion of sailing. The award celebrates Ernesto Bertarelli and Alinghi’s achievement in winning a second consecutive America’s Cup, along with the enormous impact that hosting the 32nd America’s Cup event in Europe has had on awareness of the sport.
Photographer Cory Silken - a long-time supporter of Scuttlebutt - submitted these images from Riva Trophy America's Miami. We have no idea what this event is all about, but we like Cory and the images are pretty cool too. Click here for a gallery of his selects from the event.
Mark Chew sends us this image from the SENSATIONAL Lindauer regatta on
the Hauraki Gulf (New Zealand) last weekend. Said Mark, "Some of the Southern Hemisphere's great
old racing boats thrashed it out in anything between 20-40knots. If you
think they hold back because the boats are so special...you're wrong. Winner
of Div 1..... General Paton's old ride Arcturus (Alden Schooner 1930), now sailed beautifully by New Mexico resident Barry Williams. The above photo finds Thelma passing to leeward of Arcturus." - Click here for full results.
