The Volvo Melges 24 World Championship 2008 being hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo, will see 117 boats competing June 1-6. Photo by Paul Todd.

A recent thread in Scuttlebutt discussed how some events have taken a page from bike racing, with the lead team wearing a yellow jersey, but one might think that Bryan MacDonald has taken this concept to the extreme! Bryan serves as Chair of the recently created US SAILING Windsurfing Task Force, which is focussing on ways to strengthen U.S. competitiveness in Olympic Windsurfing. Look for this committee to seek out ways broaden the base of competitive junior windsurfers. Other committee members include Nevin Sayre, Dan Weiss, and Susan Epstein.

If you’ve got it, flaunt it. Brian O’Hara gave his boat a modest name boldly proclaimed at the Buccaneer 18 North American Championship, held Memorial Day Weekend on Lake Hartwell. Photo-Bergerking Photography, Anderson, SC

Despite Brad Funk coming in second at the US Olympic Laser trials, and thus thwarting his goal of both Anna Tunnicliffe and himself representing the US in the 2008 Olympics, that didn't stop the two of them from recently fitting in the wedding. Soon after the ceremonies, the two of them headed for Holland where Anna proceeded to win an ISAF Grade 1 Olympic event, and retain her place as the top ranked Laser Radial sailor in the world.

Not all Laser sailing is at the Olympic level. Ellen Sanpere sent in this image from the Caribbean, where she was helping on the race committee for the St. Croix Open One Design (CROOD) regatta last weekend.

The Olympic circus was in Medemblik, Holland last week for the ISAF Grade 1 Delta Lloyd Regatta, where 500+ competed in mostly cold conditions. The site is known for great sailing, which makes sense now that we see the wind generators in these photos by Sander van der Borch.

The highly professional RC 44 racing circuit is in Austria this week, and it should come as no surprise that the BMW Oracle Racing team is well represented in this fleet of Russell Coutts designed boats. Among the teammates joining Russell are boss Larry Ellison, James Spithill, and John Kostecki. Photo by Gilles Martin-Raget.
