For the City of Marseille Trophy regatta, it was early in the 39 mile coastal race on Thursday when collisions at the top mark of the initial weather leg ended badly for Matador (ARG), CxG Caixa Galicia (ESP) and Mutua Madrileńa (CHI) which all sustained damage and had to retire. CxG Caixa Galicia is pictured above with sufficient bow damage to eliminate her from the remainder of the MedCup season.

Yngling team Sally Barkow, Debbie Capozzi, and Carrie Howe (USA) seen here readying their boat in Miami for its trip cross-country to board a flight on Air China from Los Angeles to Beijing for their participation in the 2008 Olympic Games. If all goes well, the boat will take two days for the air freight and 3-7 days to clear customs and be trucked from Beijing to Qingdao. They will meet the boat in Qingdao on June 10th for a 30-day training session, then fly back to the states for a 10 day break in mid July and then fly with the entire US team to San Francisco for team processing and uniform pickup and then on to Qingdao for the final training and measurement before the first day of racing on August 9th. ICAP Leopard, the 100 foot super maxi yacht owned by Mike Slade, broke the Transatlantic speed record held by luxury yacht Phocea on Tuesday 3 June. Finishing the 2,925 nautical mile crossing from New York to the Lizard, Cornwall, UK, in seven days, 19 hours and 21 minutes, ICAP Leopard shaved eight hours off the existing record, to claim her second world record in two years. ICAP Leopard sailed at an average speed of 15.5 knots, and a top speed of 37.4 knots, to complete the Atlantic crossing. She crossed the finish line at the Lizard at 19:22:05 GMT (20:22:05 local BST), having started the record attempt off Ambrose Light, New York, at 00:01 GMT on Tuesday 27th May. The record she has broken, for a monohull yacht with power-assisted winches, was previously held by 246 foot yacht Phocea who sailed the course in eight days, three hours and 29 minutes.
