The 2008 505 Pacific Coast Championship / Pre-Pre Worlds Regatta was hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club last weekend. A fleet of 27 boats competed for the title. Racing took place on the Berkeley Circle on Saturday and to the west of Alcatraz on Sunday. Winds were 15-25mph on Saturday and 15-20mph on Sunday. -- Full report - Photo by Erik Simonson/www.h2oshots.com  This week a total of 97 boats sailed in the Lightning North American Championship -- hosted by the New York Yacht Club -- with first place in the Championship Fleet going to the team of Allan Terhune, Jeff Linton and Katie Terhune. On Thursday, August 19th, Island Marine Fuel on Balboa Island is offering to donate profits from VALVTECT fuel sales to benefit Nick Scandone's campaign. To participate, fill your tank between noon and 8:00 p.m. at the Island Marine Fuel Dock located next to the Balboa Island Ferry. Later, Balboa Yacht Club will also be hosting a Send Off Party for Nick on Thursday, August 21 from 6pm – 8pm. Hitting the highway, Peter Briggs’ 41-footer Hitchhiker – the winner of the inaugural Hamilton Island Race Week in 1984 – departs from Perth on the 3500km Trans-continental trip across Australia to take part in the 25th anniversary of race week (with support from Miele and Momentum Partners). Submitted by Samuel Ainsworth.     This is the 27m (120ft) Philippe Briand designed sloop 'Bristolian', recently launched and built by Yachting Developments (YD) in Auckland, New Zealand. She's seen here sailing for the first time with her new Doyle Gennaker. The all black carbon superyacht has a futuristic deck and cockpit design with a modern interior built by Robinson Interiors of New Zealand. Other features include a 220kg 'Submarine' anchor and unique steering station pods with direct access below including the galley, crew quarters and engine room. Owners and guest accommodations are located forward. She is designed for performance cruising with a Southern Spars 51m rig with weight saving ElementC6 carbon rigging, a 40-ton lift keel and lightweight construction. When the Chubb U.S. Junior Championships wrapped up on July 31st in Chicago, IL, it was a history making event as the doublehanded Club 420 fleet was won by Korbin and Haley Kirk (Long Beach, CA) - the first siblings to win the event in its 34-year history.
