PUMA Sailing has partnered with Bladerider International to showcase a duo of fully PUMA-branded foiling Moths at all 11 Volvo Ocean Race Stopover cities. Crewed by world class Moth sailors, the mini ‘il mostros’ will provide entertainment for spectators as they blast around the harbour each day in every port. In addition to the race stopovers, PUMA and Bladerider will also enter the PUMA Moths in local Moth regattas where they coincide with stop-overs.  From photog Ingrid Abery: "I'm in Spain for the start of the Portimão Global Ocean Race and thought of the 'buttheads as the fleet will be heading to Charleston later in the race. A press conference Wednesday morning set the ball rolling for the start which kicks off on Sunday, October 12th. Some feisty weather is predicted which should produce some nice pictures. While the kitesurfers were the first to set the outright speed reacord in excess of the 50 knot target (50.57), one of the more scientific efforts to increas the speed record has not thrown in the towel. l'Hydroptère has been slowly ramping up at Port-St-Louis-du-Rhône, France and on October 5th hit a top speed of 52.86 knots (but not sustained at the 500meter length). Said Alain Thébault, "It is the first time that a sailing boat has crossed the wind barrier, that is, 50 knots. Now all we have to do is to stabilize this speed over 500 meters!" Photo by Gilles Martin-Raget.   Saint-Tropez is in southern France, located on the French Riviera with the Med awash at its beaches. Known today for its famous and wealthy guests, the town had its welcome mat out last week for Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, with photographer Amory Ross catching some of the flavor of the event (click here for more photos).   The SYZ & CO foil catamaran’s entire crew was assembled last Wednesday at the Société Nautique de Genève to celebrate the flying boat’s christening. The catamaran, suspended in mid-air in front of the Club, was airlifted from the Psaros shipyard in Vésenaz, over the fields of Cologny and into the waters of Lake Geneva. First navigation tests are scheduled in a few weeks, and only then will it be known whether the boat’s real performance is up to theoretical expectations. Until then we are left in suspense.  While the 289-foot Maltese Falcon was visiting San Francisco Bay, it had a chance meeting last Saturday with a cruiser that got a bit too close, causing damage to both hulls and to one of the sails on Maltese Falcon.
